 James R. Tacey Obituary

James R. Tacey, age 77 of Essexville, passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with CMML on Sunday evening, January 18, 2026. The son of the late Richard and Mary (Ballor) Tacey, he was born on November 29, 1948 in Bay City and graduated from Bay City Central High School. James was retired from F.P. Horak Co. and has been a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading, keeping his yard looking nice and helping his neighbors, and over the years he has become an avid train nerd. James liked going for walks on the beach, especially in Gulf Shores, Alabama where he and his family spent their winters.



On March 2, 1968 James was united in marriage to the former Candace M. Cosbitt and she survives his passing along with their two daughters, Stacie (Alan) Story and Kristie (Mark) Schmidt; and four grandsons, Benjamin (Caitlin) Story, Andrew Story, Connor Schmidt and Carter James Schmidt. James was blessed with a great granddaughter, Adeline Story. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard (Judy) Tacey, Jack (Janie) Tacey and Robert (Trish) Tacey; his sister, Sally Englehardt; and a sister-in-law, Diana Tacey. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by a brother, Randy Tacey; and his brother-in-law, Carl Englehardt.



The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Philip Baerwolf presiding. Private interment will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The family suggests donations in James’ memory to Zion Lutheran Church General Fund.
